TWISTED
PAIR CABLE
Twisted
Pair Cable has been used extensively throughout the United States
in practically every home and office to provide telephone service.
Larger installations use 25 Pair cable as a standard to provide
for increased capacity.
In
the past, bandwidth limitations prevented data from being transmitted
significant distances over twisted pair cable. However, recent developments
in digital signal processing technology have allowed date to be
transmitted in addition to voice without
concern for signal loss.
Current
technology allows 16Mbit/sec Token Ring and 100 Mbit/sec FDDI traffic
over unshielded twisted pair.
Unshielded
twisted pair is fast becoming the preferred media for Ethernet and
Token Ring.
